Stabilization of Gas Lifted Wells Based on State Estimation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper treats stabilization of multiphase flow in a gas lifted oil well. Two different controllers are investigated, PI control using the estimated downhole pressure in the well, and nonlinear model based control of the total mass in the system. Both control structures rely on the use of a state estimator, and are able to stabilize the well flow with or without a downhole pressure measurement available. In both cases stabilization of gas lifted wells increases total production significantly. Copyright c °2004 IFAC

Developing a Novel Temperature Model in Gas Lifted Wells to Enhance the Gas Lift Design
In the continuous gas lift operation, compressed gas is injected into the lower section of tubing through annulus. The produced liquid flow rate is a function of gas injection rate and injection depth. All the equations to determine depth of injection assumes constant density for gas based on an average temperature of surface and bottomhole that decreases the accuracy of gas lift design. Also g...
متن کاملStabilization of Gas Lifted Wells
Increased production from gas lifted oil wells can be achieved by use of feedback control. Without control the well system may have large oscillations in the flow rate or stabilize itself at a non-optimal production point. These non-optimal production conditions give lower production and/or poor oil/water downstream separation. The study extends the newly introduced approach for controlling gas...
متن کاملOptimizing and Stabilizing the Gas Lift Operation by Controlling the Lift Gas Specific Gravity
One of the factors which affects the gas lift performance is specific gravity of a lift gas (or the Molecular weight), which can influence the gas solubility in oil and has a direct effect on the gas lift performance. There are some previous researches which have included the lift gas specific gravity in their modeling, but in none of them, a comprehensive research about the effect of lift gas ...
متن کاملStabilization of Gas-Lift Wells by Feedback Control
Oil wells with an oscillating production rate have a lower production compared to oil wells producing at a constant rate. This study looks at instability caused by the casing-heading phenomenon. Control is applied to achieve stable production rate. Two realistic gas lifted systems for oil and gas production are investigated, using the multiphase flow simulator OLGA2000. Different control struct...
متن کاملFailure Mode and Sensitivity Analysis of Gas Lift Valves
Gas-lifted oil wells are susceptible to failure through malfunction of gas lift valves. This is a growing concern as offshore wells are drilled thousands of meters below the ocean floor in extreme temperature and pressure conditions and repair and monitoring become more difficult. Gas lift valves and oil well systems have been modeled but system failure modes are not well understood. In this pa...
